The People Who Make It Possible

RefugePaws has no paid staff. Every animal that is rescued, every meal that is served, every adoption that is processed; all of it happens because of volunteers. Our current team of 12 active volunteers collectively donates over 400 hours per month to our mission.

This month, we want to share a few of their stories.

Sarah | Animal Care Lead

Sarah has been volunteering with RefugePaws since our founding in 2021. A former veterinary technician, she oversees the daily care of all animals in our shelter, manages medication schedules, and trains new volunteers in animal handling.

"I joined because I wanted to make a difference on weekends. Three years later, this has become one of the most important parts of my life. Watching animals go from broken and scared to healthy and loved; there is nothing like it."

Marcus | Transportation Volunteer

Marcus drives rescued animals to veterinary appointments, moves animals between foster homes, and coordinates transportation logistics for our rescue operations. In 2024 alone, he has driven over 3,000 miles for RefugePaws.

"I am not great with the medical side, but I can drive. And sometimes getting an animal to the vet in time is the difference between life and death. I am proud of what those miles represent."

Priya | Social Media and Outreach

Priya manages our Instagram and Facebook presence, writes animal profiles, and coordinates our community outreach events. Her work has directly contributed to a 60% increase in adoption inquiries over the past year.

"Every post I write is a chance to find an animal their home. I take that seriously. I want people to see not just a photo, but a whole personality."
