The Problem We Are Solving

The stray animal population in the United States is staggering. Estimates suggest there are between 30 and 40 million homeless dogs and cats living on American streets. The primary driver of this crisis is uncontrolled reproduction. A single unspayed female dog and her offspring can theoretically produce thousands of puppies over six years.

At RefugePaws, we believe that the most humane and effective long-term solution is not just rescue; it is prevention.

Our Program by the Numbers

Since launching our Spay and Neuter Initiative in early 2022, we have completed 180 procedures across our network of partner veterinary clinics. Each procedure costs an average of $150, funded entirely by donations from supporters like you.

We prioritize animals in our shelter first, then extend the program to community animals brought in by residents who cannot afford the procedure privately.

The Real Impact

Beyond the numbers, the impact is deeply personal. We have seen female dogs arrive at our shelter visibly exhausted from repeated pregnancies. After their spay surgery, the transformation in their energy, health, and demeanor is remarkable.

When she arrived, she was so tired, you could see it in her eyes. She had given birth four times in three years on the street. After her surgery, it was like watching a different dog emerge. She started playing for the first time. - Shelter coordinator Amanda T.

How You Can Help

A donation of $150 funds one complete sterilization procedure. You can also donate any amount; every dollar contributes to our surgical fund. If you know of a community animal in need of this service, please contact us through our website.

Together, we can break the cycle of homelessness for thousands of animals.
